Hello all, it’s time for another BDSRA fundraiser!!!!! This email is a reminder of back to back events coming up in the North Mecklenburg/Concord area on October 3rd and 4th. On Saturday night October 3rd there will be a pre race dinner at Harris Road Middle School in preparation for the Take Flight Triathlon on Sunday morning the 4th at Nomad Aquatics Center. Two different events with one common theme, supporting families of children with life threatening illnesses and finding a cure for Batten Disease.
The dinner will be open to the public as well as to the registered triathletes and their families. We will have a silent auction and children’s activities along with dinner, but the highlight of the evening will be our keynote speaker Sheila Taormina. Sheila is a 4 time Olympic athlete in 4 events and a gold medal winner in swimming at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She also competed in the Olympic triathlon twice and most recently last summer in the modern pentathlon in the Beijing games. Add to that list the fact that Sheila is also the 2004 World Champion in the triathlon and you can’t help but be excited!!!!!! Don’t miss all the fun and festivities for a great evening and a great cause! Dinner proceeds will benefit the Batten Disease Support and Research Association.
As the infomercial says “But wait, there’s more!!!!!!” Sunday morning the 2nd Annual Take Flight Triathlon will be held. Last year’s event was a huge success with over 500 registered athletes, and this year’s race will be even more competitive as the field has been opened up to 800 participants.
Take Flight proceeds will benefit Garrett’s Wings Foundation www.garrettswings.org.
