Camp New Hope Open House 2010

Visited our favorite place with Brandon and Jeremy(and Cubby) yesterday for their annual open house.  For those that don’t know about it we have visited several times.  Camp Director Randy Brown contacted us after she saw an article in the local newspaper a couple of years back.  The camp is a non profit organization that caters to families of children with special needs.  Several Batten families have visited and we have planted a tree that served as the inspiration for the Garden of  Hope to be designed around the tree.  It holds a special place in our heart and we love to make the trip whenever we can.  The Open House was a huge success with a bonfire, hay rides, a beautifully decorated lodge and the usual shenanigans.  If you are looking for a Christmas gift idea Randy has Camp New Hope tins stocked with assorted cakes from Apple Baking Co in Salisbury, NC.  You gotta try the Cheerwine cake!  Contact Randy at to place an order!!!!!!

I am married to Wendy and dad to two boys Brandon and Jeremy with Juvenile Batten Disease, a fatal neurodegenerative childhood disorder. I am also active with the Batten Disease Support and Research Association.
